The Brass Rail Tavern is the oldest bar in the Capital City of Topeka, Kansas.
Established in 1933, the bar has been a pillar in the community for almost 100 years. Even briefly serving as the sole location for the only payphone in all of Oakland. Originally created by William Etzel; the bar exchanged hands six more times. After Bill... Cody, John McDonald, Ryan Whiteside, Rob and Dave Stevens, Tami and Chris Lopez, and finally to it's current owner, Emil Spaeth. Maintaining the bar's history, supporting Oakland and Topeka residents, and promoting small business success in our Capital City is Emil's passion. The Brass Rail opens bright and early to give Topeka's working class citizens a friendly sanctuary after their shift. Staying open late for a wonderful place to meet for drinks and socialize with fellow community members. Emil supports Oakland and the city through various projects and donations. Located below, you'll find more information about our community partners.
Preserving the history of the bar is one of Emil's top priorities. The bar itself features an original pre-1900s Brunswick bartop and cabinet set, previously located in a prominate Kansas City Hotel. You will also find an eclectic array of local signs and decor throughout the bar.
